TEELT EN TECHN I EK / CU LTIVATION AND TECHNOLOGY PotatoEurope 2017 Stikstofmeststoffen die langzaam vrijkomen Eurochem Agro hoopt in Emmeloord een breed spectrum aan proeven te laten zien die verband houden met stikstofmeststoffen met en zonder nitrificatie­remmers. EuroChem Agro is de nieuwe eigenaar van wat een paar jaar lang K + S Nitrogen was en daarvoor Compo. Het is een wereldwijd opererende Russische kunstmestfabrikant met inmiddels al diverse grote productievestigingen onder meer in Europa, Mexico, China en Singapore. De kunstmest die in België, Nederland en Duitsland op de markt komt wordt in Antwerpen geproduceerd in een kunstmestfabriek die enkele jaren geleden nog eigendom van BASF was. Een van de bijzondere kunstmestsoorten die hier uit de fabriek rolt is het inmiddels al aardig bekende Entec. Entec is een N­meststof dat de stikstof langzaam vrijgeeft doordat het een ammoniumstabilisator bevat. Voordeel hiervan is dat de aardappelplant langer de beschikking heeft over stikstof dan bij kalkammonsalpeter en dat minder stikstof verloren gaat door uitspoeling. Entec zorgt er tevens voor dat de zuurgraad (Ph) rondom de wortelzone afneemt door deze meststof. Dat heeft als voordeel dat de wortels makkelijker micro­elementen kunnen opnemen. Verder zijn in de veldjes verschillende varianten van de Entec mengmeststoffen te zien, met en zonder kali of fosfaat. Opnieuw aandacht voor Talent ADAMA Nothern Europe uit Leusden is leverancier van Talent. Dit is een natuurlijke kiemremmer gemaakt op basis van karwijolie. Op de Nederlandse markt is het al jarenlang verkrijgbaar. De pootgoedhandelshuizen die jaarlijks vele nieuwe rassen beproeven testen deze de laatste jaren ook op de werking van kiemremmingsmiddelen als Talent. Om snel te kunnen achterhalen in welke mate de knollen van een ras reageren op de kiemremmer heeft ADAMA een speciale Talent app ontwikkeld die telers handig kunnen gebruiken. Op het demoveld in Emmeloord is een vergelijking aangelegd met andere kiemremmers in een aantal rassen en een onbehandeld veldje. Wat het bedrijf hierin wil laten zien is hoe diverse rassen kunnen reageren op de kiemremmer en welke extra plussen achter een behandeling wegkomen. Een ervan is bijvoorbeeld meer stengelvorming, die veelal een verhoogde knolzetting oplevert. Rassen met veel resistenties Grenzend aan het demoveld van ADAMA heeft Caithness Potatoes uit Emmeloord een rassenveld aangelegd. Het vlaggenschip van het bedrijf is de Valor: een echt boerenras met een hoge opbrengst. Andere variëteiten die Caithness hier zal presenteren zijn onder andere de Argos, Divaa, Marvel en Celine, evenals de nieuwkomers Libertie, WO 09­94 en Marcelle. Marcelle is een ras met een resistentie tegen Y­virus, waardoor het goed gedijd in landen met een hoge virusdruk. Ook zal het pootgoedhandelshuis phytophthoraresistente rassen laten zien, zoals de Cammeo, Passion en de Tentation. Het zijn rassen die niet alleen interessant zijn voor de biologische sector maar ook voor de gangbare telers. Slow-release nitrogen fertiliser EuroChem Agro hopes to show a wide range of tests that are related to nitrogen fertilisers with and without nitrification inhibitors. EuroChem Agro is the new owner of what used to be K & S Nitrogen for a few years, and Compo before that. The fertiliser, which is marketed in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, is manufactured in Antwerp in a fertiliser factory that used to be owned by BASF. One of the special fertilisers that are produced here is the already well­known Entec. Entec is an N fertiliser that is able to release its nitrogen slowly because it contains an ammonium stabiliser. The advantage of this process is that the potato plant has longer use of the nitrogen than with calcium ammonium nitrate, and less nitrogen is lost through leaching. Entec fertiliser also decreases the acidity (pH) around the root zone. The advantage of this is that the roots are able to absorb micro­elements more easily. Various variants of the Entec mixed fertilisers are also shown in the fields, with and without potash or phosphate. Renewed interest in Talent ADAMA Northern Europe in Leusden is the supplier of Talent. This is a natural sprout inhibitor that has been available on the Dutch markets for many years and is produced on the basis of caraway oil. The seed potato trading companies, which try out many new varieties every year, have recently also tested the effects of sprouting inhibitors such as Talent. In order to find out quickly to what extent the tubers of a certain variety react to the sprout inhibiting agent, Mabeno has developed a special Talent app, which can be very useful for growers. On the demonstration field in Emmeloord, a comparison was made with other sprouting inhibitors. What the company wants to show is how the different varieties can react to the sprout inhibitor and what the extra advantages of the treatment are. One advantage, for example, is more stem formation, which usually increases tuber growth. Varieties with many resistances Bordering on the ADAMA demonstration field, Caithness Potatoes in Emmeloord has laid out a field with different varieties. The flagship of the company is the Valor, a real traditional variety with a high product yield. Other varieties that Caithness will present here include Argos, Divaa, Marvel and Celine, as well as newcomers Libertie, WO 09­94 and Marcelle. Marcelle is a variety that is resistant to virus Y, which means it does well in countries with a high virus pressure. The seed potato company will also show Phytophthora­resistant varieties such as Cammeo, Passion and Tentation.
