Hier presenteren diverse bedrijven uit de sector nieuwe en al langer bestaande producten die van pas kunnen komen, voor, tijdens of na de teelt. Daarnaast is hierin ook aandacht voor moderne aardappelrassen. Al met al een mooi aantal interessante objecten voor de nodige kennisverdieping. The centre of the PotatoEurope showground in Emmeloord boasts thirteen potato trial fields. Groenbemesting gericht op aaltjesbestrijding Vandinter Semo uit Scheemda is een veredelingsbedrijf in lok­ en vanggewassen die vallen onder de noemer van groenbemesters. Het bedrijf ontwikkelt diverse groenbemesters die in staat zijn aaltjes te bestrijden die schadelijk zijn voor de aardappelteelt. Zo is bijvoorbeeld het aardappelcystenaaltje te lokken met het gewas raketblad, een aardappelachtige plant, echter met als kenmerkend verschil dat het geen knollen vormt, maar uitsluitend fijne haarwortels. Een tussen­ of nateelt van raketblad maakt het volgens Vandinter Semo mogelijk om een populatie aardappelcystenaaltjes met 60 tot 70 procent te reduceren. Dat wil de onderneming onder meer toelichten in het demoveld dat op het terrein is aangelegd. Naast aardappelcystenaaltjes zijn er volgens het bedrijf nog 5 andere aaltjes een bedreiging voor de pootgoed­ en consumptieteelt. Het gaat dan om het bietencystenaaltje, het wortellesieaaltje en drie verschillende soorten wortelknobbelaaltjes. In het demonstratie veld zaaien zijn daarom naast raketblad groenbemesters gezaaid die de populaties van deze aaltjes kunnen verminderen. Daarnaast wil het bedrijf benadrukken dat groenbemesters veel meer voor de aardappelteelt kunnen betekenen dan alleen aaltjes bestrijden. Zo vormen ze bijvoorbeeld een grote hoeveelheid biomassa. Na inwerking in de bodem kan het de organische stofvoorziening op peil brengen en/of houden. Een geslaagde groenbemester zorgt er dus voor dat de bodem in een goede conditie blijft, aldus Vandinter Semo. Rassenpakket voor de hele aardappelwereld Op het Schaap Holland demoveld bij PotatoEurope laat de aardappelonderneming uit Biddinghuizen bezoekers zien dat het een breed en veelzijdig gamma pootaardappelrassen voor de nationale en internationale aardappelsector te bieden heeft. Zo ligt hier onder meer de Amora. Dit ras is een vroeg fritesras. Het kan heel goed concurreren met de bekende vroege ras Première, heeft minder tal, sterker loof en produceert daarmee grotere ovale knollen. Een mooie aanvulling op deze Amora is de Ibiza. Dit eveneens vroege fritesras met Amora­bloed is onder meer Green manure applications are focused on nematode control Vandinter Semo in Scheemda is a breeding company that develops trap and catch crops that are classified as green manure crops.
