TEELT EN TECHN I EK / CU LTIVATION AND TECHNOLOGY PotatoEurope 2017 Middelen om teelt op hoger plan te brengen Certis Europe is ook van de partij op het demoveld. Het beursthema Potatoes feed/meet the World sluit naadloos aan op wat onze teeltadviseurs in een demoveld zullen presenteren. Dit levert voor de bezoekers een ontmoeting op met twee doeltreffende middelen die de teelt van aardappelen op een hoger plan brengen: Quickdown en Crown MH. In het demoveld wil Certis de bezoekers van PotatoEurope graag wijzen op de langzame en daarmee juist doeltreffende werking van het loofdoodmiddel Quickdown. Het grijpt na toediening in op de aanmaak van chlorofyl in het blad. Daarmee krijgt de plant als het ware het signaal: ik moet afrijpen. Positieve gevolgen daarvan zijn een betere afharding van de schil, sneller loslaten van de stengels bij de oogst en geen kans op naveleindrot. Wanneer je een groen gewas met het goede onderwatergewicht doodspuit met een middel als diquat, dan kan het onderwatergewicht soms dalen. Pas je echter Quickdown toe, dan voorkom je dit. Dan komen in een ander demoveld twee blokken aan proeven te liggen met het vloeibare middel Crown MH. Hierin zal Certis aantonen dat de werking van het middel tweeledig is: kiemremming en opslagbestrijding. Deze eigenschappen zijn de laatste jaren niet alleen interessant voor de consumptieteelt, ook in de zetmeelteelt en die van dubbeldoelrassen neemt de belangstelling in rap tempo toe. Rust in de bewaring met nieuwe kiemregulator Tijdens PotatoEurope zal BASF zich in het eigen demoveld gaan richten op de nieuwe kiemregulator 1.4SIGHT. Aangezien telers in de praktijk zoveel verschillende manieren kiemremming in hun bewaarregime hanteren is het advies voor de inzet van 1,4SIGHT niet altijd hetzelfde. Dat zal BASF ook toelichten bij de demovelden. Vorig jaar zijn de eerste praktijktests begonnen met een basisschema van zes toepassingen in een lang bewaarseizoen met een afbouwschema van 20 naar 10 milliliter per ton aardappelen. Aan de hand van de resultaten uit dat seizoen is het doseringsadvies aangepast. Het advies luidt nu: begin in frites­ en chipsaardappelen met een dosering van 20 milliliter per ton bij de eerste twee behandelingen, dan tweemaal 15 milliliter en afsluitend nog tweemaal 10 milliliter. Gaat het om toepassing in tafelaardappelen, dan adviseert BASF vanaf de derde toepassing 10 milliliter per ton te doseren en de laatste behandeling 20 milliliter. Heb je de aardappelen voor het inschuren al met MH (melaïne hydrazide) behandeld, dan geldt een ander regime. Een van de conclusies tot nu toe is dan ook dat preventief behandelen beter is dan curatief, aldus BASF. Verdere toelichting volgt op 13 en 14 september. Loofdoder met werking op bacterieziek Een demoveld dat naar verwachting veel belangstellende zal trekken is dat van Belchim Crop Protection uit het Belgische Londerzeel. Zij lanceert namelijk het nieuwe natuurlijke loofdodingsmiddel Beloukha dat daarnaast ook een werking heeft op bacterieziek. Dat zal zeker de belangstelling van menig pootgoedteler wekken. Belchim beschrijft Beloukha als een product op basis van pelargonzuur dat ook bekend staat als either with a name or a number and, naturally, an appropriate explanation by Schaap Holland. Products to bring the cultivation to a higher level Certis Europe will also put in an appearance on the demonstration field. The Potatoes Feed and Meet the World theme ties in closely with what our agronomists will present on the demonstration field. For visitors, this means an introduction to two chemicals that take the cultivation of potatoes to a higher level: Quickdown and Crown MH. In the demonstration field, Certis wants to show PotatoEurope visitors the effective action of the haulm killer Quickdown. After application, the production of chlorophyll in the leaves is stopped. The plant gets the signal that it’s time to mature, with the following positive consequences: a better hardened­off skin, release of the stem after lifting, and no chance of stem­end browning. If you kill a green crop that has a good underwater weight with a product such as Diquat, the underwater weight can sometimes drop. If you apply Quickdown, this won’t happen. Another demonstration field will have two sections where the fluid agent Crown MH is tested. Certis intends to show that the action of the product is two­fold: sprout inhibition and the control of second growth. These features haven’t only become interesting in recent years for the cultivation of consumption potatoes, interest is also rapidly increasing for use in the cultivation of starch potatoes and those of dual­purpose varieties. Improved in storage with new sprouting regulator During PotatoEurope, on its own demonstration field, BASF will focus on its new sprouting regulator 1,4SIGHT. As, in practice, growers use many different ways of sprouting inhibition in their storage regimes, advice on the use of 1,4SIGHT may vary. BASF will give an explanation of this at the demonstration fields. Last year, the first practical tests started with a basic scheme of six applications in a long storage season with a phasing­out schedule from 20 to 10 ml/t of potatoes. The dosage advice is adjusted on the basis of the previous season’s results. The current advice is: start French­fry and crisps potatoes with a dosage of 20 ml/t for the first two applications, followed by twice 15 ml/t and finish with twice 10 ml/t. If you want to treat table potatoes, BASF recommends applying 10 ml/t from the third application and 20 ml/t for the last application. If you have treated the potatoes with MH (melaic hydrazide) before storage, a different schedule applies. One of the conclusions so far is that a preventive treatment is better than a curative one, according to BASF. Further explanation will follow on 13 and 14 September. Haulm killer proved effective for bacterial infection A demonstration field that is expected to attract a lot of attention is that of Belchim Crop Protection from the Belgian village of Londerzeel.
